Once upon a time, I was a painter. Hopefully, I will find the time (and space) to pick it up once again. Most graciously, my friend Bill snapped and uploaded photos of some of my artwork.

In 2006, I did some writing for Kitchen Democracy, one of those web sites where you think 'yeah - that's what the internet is for'. It was fascinating to learn more about how local politics work. In Berkeley, it is also entertaining and sometimes exhausting.
I wrote two articles concerning Berkeley, CA:
Zoning Approval of new Trader Joe's
"Downzoning"

Swimming - Training

I do most of my training at the Berkeley YMCA in the lap pool.  The schedule is great and there's always room for one more in the lane.

In the summer, I love swimming at Temescal Pool, which is run by the city of Oakland.   The pool is a really odd size at 33 1/3 yards.   The schedule is a little tighter than at the Y, but it's pretty reasonable.   I really like training outdoors, partly because I get to wear my cool looking mirror spaceman goggles.

If you're going to do any bay swims at all, I highly recommend getting out in Aquatic Park at least a few times a year.   You just can't beat being out in the bay on a nice summer day. You can swim "laps" along the bouys, or a more interesting "perimiter swim" around the circle.   If you're seriously hard-core, check into joining the Dolphin Club. I am not seriously hard-core - not like these folks. Just do be safe, I'd recommend checking for any nasties in the water.  I have had some, uh, issues in the past with the water.
